LOC denies providing pole equipment for athletes, refute food rationing claims

Accra, May 15, GNA – The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 24th African Senior Athletics Championships say they have not supplied pole vault equipment to athletes and dismissed reports of food rationing as false.

Madam Veronica Commey, National Sports Authority (NSA) Deputy Director and a member of the LOC, said at a press conference that claims of food rationing had been independently verified to be false.

She also addressed reports that a vault that snapped during competition had been provided by organisers, saying the equipment belonged to the Beninois athlete.

“It has come to the attention of the LOC that there is a report suggesting that a vault that snapped during the pole vault event was procured by the organisers.

“That narrative is completely false. The LOC did not provide vaults for athletes, and all vaults being used at the championship are owned by individual athletes,” she said.

Madam Commey said any challenges related to technical equipment, including timing and results systems, had been resolved.

“We prioritise the needs of athletes and all stakeholders and will continue to improve services,” she said, acknowledging that gaps could arise in large-scale sporting event like Africa Athletics Championships.

She added that the LOC remained open to feedback and urged media practitioners to seek clarification where necessary to ensure accurate reporting during the competition.
