Dunkwa-on-Offin (C/R), Sept. 12, GNA – The Denkyira Traditional Council has called on the government to urgently, remove the Central North Police Commander, DCOP Abraham Acquaye and Mr Isaac Nsiah, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Upper Denkyira West from their respective offices.
The call followed their alleged involvement in activities that undermined the peace and stability of the Denkyira State.
The Council said the conduct and actions of the two government officials had raised serious concerns among the traditional authorities and elders of Denkyira, particularly in relation to chieftaincy matters and the maintenance of peace in the traditional area.
Addressing a press conference at Amponsem Ahenfie at Dunkwa, Barima Siaw Panin III, the Denkyira Gyaasehene on behalf of the Council, alleged that the Central North Police Commander had shown support for individuals whose actions had the potential to create tension and conflict in the Area.
The Council specifically cited the Commander’s alleged support for Obeng Nuako III, the Dunkwahene, contrary to the authority and position of the Denkyira Omanhene.
The traditional authorities alleged that, instead of protecting the peace and supporting the legitimate traditional leadership, the police commander had rather offered protection and support to persons they had accused of causing trouble within the Denkyira State.
It also accused the DCE for inappropriately meddling in chieftaincy affairs, which had the potential to aggravate existing tensions and undermine the authority of traditional leadership.
The Council, therefore appealed to the government to act swiftly by removing the two officials, arguing that their continued presence and alleged activities within the area, could further threaten the peace and stability of the Denkyira State.
The traditional authorities advised government officials, particularly those responsible for security and local administration to work in concert with traditional leaders, to preserve peace rather than engage in actions that could deepen divisions within the traditional area.
The Council said it remained committed to peace and protection of the dignity and authority of Denkyira traditional leadership but insisted that the government must take immediate steps to address the concerns raised.
