Sekondi MP supplies free exercise books to 300,000 School Children

Sekondi (W/ R), September 12, GNA-Mr Blay Nyamekeh Armah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Sekondi, has donated three hundred thousand (300,000) exercise books to all basic school children in his constituency. 

The donation formed part of the MP’s annual distribution of exercise books to support education since 2023. 

Mr Armah, a lawyer by profession, disclosed this during the distribution of 230,000   free exercise books to basic school children in government schools in addition to 70,000 books earlier donated to school children in private schools outside the constituency at a grand ceremony of school children, teachers and officials from the Ghana Education Service (GES) at Sekondi in the Western Region. 

The move, aimed at reducing the financial burden on parents and complement efforts of the Ghana Education Service in the quest for good quality education delivery. 

Mr. Armah, a first-time Member of Parliament on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said in 2023 and 2024, then as a Parliamentary Candidate, he supplied five exercise books to each pupil, which he increased to 20 books per child in 2025 and 2026, relieving parents of the burden of buying exercise books last year and this year. 

The Sekondi MP said to show commitment to the free exercise books initiative which was in doubt by some parents when he first mooted the idea, his office established a printing press in August 2025 to print more books to supply school children. 

“The MP’s printing press is for parents who were in doubt as to whether the free exercise books initiative could be sustained, to repose confidence in me that the promise of free exercise books will not fizzle out”. 

Mr Armah assured parents and the people of Sekondi of a new lease of life as his office strived harder to bring more development to the area and improve upon their living conditions. 

In this regard, he has embarked upon revamping dilapidated school structures in the constituency.  

The lawmaker paid a glowing tribute to teachers in the constituency for their untiring efforts and pledged government’s support to complement their efforts to give of their best. 

Mr Armah advised parents to guide their children to study in a bid to actualize their vision in life and bring positive transformation to Sekondi and the country at large. 

Mr Charles Tetteh, the Project Officer of Saint Ann’s Junior High School on behalf of the teachers, lauded efforts of Mr Armah for the interventions in the education sector to facilitate teaching and learning. 

He commended the MP for the free transportation cost for school children, the free exercise books initiative, renovation of school blocks and other laudable initiatives to be rolled out very soon. 

Mr Tetteh asked parents and teachers to rally behind the MP to transform the education sector and improve upon the living conditions in Sekondi.
