Accra, May 11, GNA – The Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) has announced a second phase of a mandatory health screening exercise for all licensed boxers, scheduled from May 27 – 28, 2026.
The exercise, organised in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the National Sports Authority and a new sponsor, follows a successful screening conducted last November.
A statement signed by Mr Samir Captan, Chairman of the GBIMC, said processing would take place daily from 8:00 a.m. at the James Town Police Station, after which boxers would be transported to the Lapaz Community Hospital for medical examinations.
Registration for the exercise would begin on May 25 and run through May 26 at the James Town Police Station between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
The committee said participation is compulsory for all active boxers, as the exercise forms part of the process of compiling a new national database to be handed over to the incoming Ghana Boxing Authority executive board.
The screenings would include mandatory medical tests prescribed by the GBIMC’s Sub-Committee on Medical, Safety and Anti-Doping to confirm boxers’ fitness to compete.
According to the statement, tests conducted during the first phase remain valid, although additional assessments may be required on a fight-by-fight basis.
“Your health is our priority, and this initiative is part of our broader initiative to promote athlete safety, longevity, and professionalism in Ghanaian boxing. Please bring along a valid form of identification and your GBA license card (expired or not),” the statement said.
