Dambai (O/R), Sept 11, GNA – Mr Nelson Kofi Djabab, Member of Parliament (MP) for Krachi East Constituency, has commended students and educators in the Municipality for what he described as a significant improvement in academic performance in the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
He said the improvement was reflected in the number of candidates who attained excellent aggregate scores, compared with the previous year, describing the development as an encouraging indication of progress in basic education in the Municipality.
The MP made the remarks at a ceremony in Dambai to present educational materials and financial support to outstanding BECE candidates who obtained aggregate scores between six and nine.
Mr Djabab said while only two students achieved aggregate scores of six to nine in the previous year, the number had increased substantially in 2026, with 13 male candidates and seven female candidates recording similar outstanding results.
He said the development represented a significant milestone for the Municipality and demonstrated that sustained investment, commitment from teachers, parental support and determination by students could yield positive results in education.
The MP said his decision to support the award scheme was to motivate students to take their studies seriously and encourage them to pursue academic excellence as they transitioned to Senior High School (SHS).
He said the initiative would also recognise students who had demonstrated exceptional academic potential despite facing various challenges.
Mr Djabab said, in addition to the high-performing BECE candidates, persons with disabilities and brilliant but needy students were included among the beneficiaries, bringing the total number of awardees to 22.
The beneficiaries received educational items, including trunks, chop boxes, mattresses, notebooks, exercise books and mathematical sets, as well as financial assistance of GH¢2,000 each to support their educational needs.
He urged the beneficiaries to remain disciplined, focused and committed to their studies, saying their achievements at the basic level should serve as a foundation for greater academic accomplishments in the future.
Mr Djabab also encouraged parents, teachers, traditional authorities and other stakeholders to continue supporting education in the Municipality to sustain the gains recorded.
Nana Kwaku Beyennor II, Chief of Dambai, commended the MP for his continued commitment to education and urged him to sustain the initiative to provide opportunities for more young people in the Municipality.
He said education remained critical to the development of the Municipality and called for stronger collaboration among political authorities, traditional leaders, schools, parents and the private sector to improve educational outcomes.
Nana Beyennor encouraged the beneficiaries to value the support they had received and use it responsibly to advance their education.
Some of the awardees expressed appreciation to the MP for the gesture and pledged to work hard to excel in their respective Senior High Schools and justify the confidence reposed in them.
They said the support would ease some of the financial burden associated with their transition to the next level of education and serve as motivation to pursue higher academic goals.
The ceremony formed part of efforts to recognise academic excellence and encourage students in the Krachi East Municipality to strive for improved performance in education.
