Accra, April 21, GNA – The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released funds for the procurement of perishable food items for Senior High and Technical Schools across the country.
The move follows threats by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) to shut down schools if urgent financial support was not provided, a statement signed by Mr Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES, said on Tuesday.
“The Management of the Ghana Education Service wishes to inform the public, particularly stakeholders in the education sector, that the outstanding funds for the procurement of perishable food items for Senior High and Technical Schools nationwide have been released,” it said.
A stakeholders’ meeting with the Sector Minister, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, aimed at addressing concerns over a looming food crisis, ended in a stalemate.
The statement noted that management had initiated processes to ensure the timely and efficient disbursement of the funds to the various schools.
It added that monitoring and accountability mechanisms had been put in place to ensure that the funds were used judiciously and strictly for their intended purpose.
The GES assured all stakeholders of its unwavering commitment to the welfare of students and the continuous improvement of educational outcomes across the country.
