Wesley Grammar School appeals for government’s support to construct internal roads

Accra, March 11, GNA – Mr Alexander Konadu, the National President, Wesley Grammar School Old Students Association, has appealed to the government to support the construction of internal roads of the school.

He said the untarred road had created uneasiness within the school’s environment, especially with the dust, adding that urgent attention to the project would aid teaching and learning.

Mr Konadu made the appeal at the weekend as part of activities to mark the school’s 70th anniversary in Accra.

He said the different year groups had undertaken several projects in the school, including the renovation of the main gate, robotic centre, and the science and maths centre.

They had also broken the ground for the construction of a new dormitory for the girls, calling for support to complete the project on schedule.

Mr Konadu said the Association had earmarked activities to celebrate the anniversary, including homecoming, public lecture, bonfire, thanksgiving service, and the main anniversary ceremony with key government officials in attendance.

He called on all old students to participate actively in the programmes for a successful event.

Mr Patrick Richard Okine, Lead Project Consultant for the Anniversary, expressed worry over the spate of indiscipline in schools and called for stiffer punishment on perpetrators of such acts to serve as a deterrent to others.

He said the school was grounded with ethical values to instill discipline in students and urged the students to abide by the rules and regulations to avoid any punishment.

Madam Barbara Juliet Tekyiwaa Thompson, the Headmistress, commended the old students’ groups for the projects completed and those ongoing.

There was was more to be done, she said, and appealed to other students to get on board to complete more projects to enhance learning outcomes.

Mr Michael Moi Buckman, Chairman, Anniversary Planning Committee, urged the public to participate in the upcoming public lecture, centered on education, to bring improvements.
