Ho, July 23, GNA – The Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH) and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF-MahamaCares) have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening collaboration to improve specialist healthcare delivery in the Volta Region and beyond.
It would also expand access to quality treatment for patients living with chronic non-communicable diseases.
The affirmation was made during a high-level engagement between management of the two institutions, where officials reviewed the implementation of the GMTF Patient Support Programme, assessed experiences from its pilot phase and discussed measures to strengthen service delivery.
The meeting also focused on harmonising medicines and tariff structures, improving communication between the institutions, and inspecting a proposed site for the construction of a state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory at the hospital.
Madam Obuobia Darko-Opoku, the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, announced that Government had approved the commencement of the Ho Teaching Hospital’s retooling project, describing the facility as one of the Fund’s key strategic partners.
She commended the hospital for its role as the premier referral and teaching hospital serving the Volta Region and neighbouring communities.
“The Fund was established to reduce the burden of chronic non-communicable diseases through four strategic pillars: financial support for patients, investment in equipment and infrastructure, training of specialist healthcare professionals and support for medical research,” Madam Darko-Opoku said.
She noted that the pilot phase of the Patient Support Programme had produced encouraging results despite some implementation challenges, praising the hospital’s commitment to ensuring that eligible patients received timely and quality care.
“The engagement has also provided an opportunity to share experiences, address operational challenges and develop practical solutions that will strengthen programme delivery and improve patient outcomes,” she added.
Dr Hintermann K. K. Mbroh, the Chief Executive Officer of Ho Teaching Hospital, expressed appreciation to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund for selecting the hospital as a strategic partner.
He reaffirmed management’s commitment to the programme, describing the approval for the retooling project and the planned Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory as landmark interventions that would significantly enhance specialist healthcare services.
“These interventions align with our strategic vision of expanding access to advanced, patient-centered healthcare and positioning Ho Teaching Hospital as a leading centre of excellence in Ghana and the West African sub-region,” Dr Mbroh stated.
Speaking to Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Richmond Edem Kofi Kpotosu, the Member of Parliament for Ho Central described the interventions as timely and beneficial to healthcare delivery in the region, while the Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Mr Edem Agbana, commended the dedication of the hospital’s staff and called for sustained support to strengthen specialist medical services.
Officials said the engagement would continue with a technical session to deliberate on programme implementation and strategies to further strengthen collaboration for improved patient care.
