MP honour teachers for improved quality education delivery

Lambussie (UW/R), March. 11, GNA – Ten teachers in the Lambussie District have received MP’s Best Teacher Award Scheme for their outstanding performance to enhance quality education recognising their hard work and dedication to impacting knowledge on children. 

The initiative was instituted by Professor Titus Kofi Beyuo, (MP) for the Lambussie constituency to appreciate and motivate hardworking teachers for demonstrating resilience and professionalism to improve academic performance in the district. 

The awardees included Mr Kwao Hilleh Nicholas, Lambussie D/A Junior High School, Kanyiri Salia Joseph, Piina Senior High School, Alidu Bodong Solomon, Karni-Dampuo D/A Primary, Kazie Amuna, Piina Senior High School. 

The rest were, Mr John Owusu, Lambussie Community Day Senior High School, Abubakari Abdul Moomin, Holy Family Senior High School, Doozie Andrew, Gbingaala D/A Junior High School, Jonah Kpeng Beare Mampong, Piina R/C Junior High School, Baagbog Damascus Kuube-orob, Piina D/A Primary school, and Mr. Kulan James, Kulkagrni D/A Primary School. 

Mr Kwao Hilleh Nicholas, of the Lambussie D/A Junior High School, was adjudged the overall Best Teacher in the district.  

He received an Apsonic motorbike and a citation while Mr Kanyiri Salia Joseph, of the Piina Senior High School came second and was presented with a double door Nasco Refrigerator, Samsung tablet, and a citation. 

The third position was won by Alidu Bodong Solomon, of the Karni-Dampuo D/A Primary School.  

His prize was a Nasco LED 43-inch Flat Screen TV and a citation, while each of the awardees from fourth to the 10th position was given citation andan undisclosed cash prizes. 

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Beyuo said the initiative aimed to motivate teachers and improve academic performance in the district.  

He emphasised that the scheme would continue annually, with deserving teachers selected and rewarded based on merit. 

He indicated that the area was very deprived and that the awards scheme was his widow’s mite to serve as a morale booster for the teachers to do their best, stressing that teachers in the country deserve better and that he would continue to reward teachers for dedicating their time and lives impacting knowledge on children in the constituency. 

Professor Beyuo, in an interview with Ghana News Agency after the ceremony disclosed that the selection of the awardees was done in a transparent manner devoid of political affiliation or backgrounds. 

He stated that, “When we announced to our teachers to apply, some thought we were joking, we did not do it on political grounds, we gave everything to the education directorate to select the hardworking teachers based on merit. 

“I want to assure everyone in the district that this award scheme has come to stay since I am the MP in the constituency, and every year, deserving teachers would be selected and rewarded” he stated. 

Mr Naawulle Ireneous Basingbie, the Lambussie District Chief Executive (DCE), commended the MP for the initiative, which was timely and would spur teachers on to work harder to improve education standards in the district. 

Mr Basingbie pledged the assembly’s commitment to providing enabling environment and resources for teachers to operate to enhance quality education and called on teachers to work harder to improve the standard of education in the district. 

He appealled to the Ministry of Education to post more trained teachers to the area to provide quality education to the communities. 

Mr Bede Baminekang, the Lambussie District Director of Education also commended the MP and urged awardees to view the recognition as a motivation to continue making a positive impact in the classroom. 

He advised the awardees not to consider the award as merely prizes, but appreciation, motivation, and recognition of their sacrifice, long hours preparation, patience, and commitment to the profession. 

 He said, “Your selection is a testament to your dedication, innovation, discipline, and impact in the classroom and beyond, I pray that your recognition will inspire you to do even more, and may it motivate others to strive for excellence”. 

He also lauded the teachers for their immense contribution despite infrastructure gaps, teacher’s deficit, logistics constraints, lack of accommodation and growing enrolment challenges in the district and called on them to continue to put up their best to improve quality education in the district  

The Paramount Chief of the Lambussie Traditional Council, Kuoro Issaka Zengeh Kazie Tenjie II, hailed the initiative, which was the first in the district’s history and would inspire other teachers to strive for excellence and commeded the MP for instituting the programm, the first of its kind in the constituency 

The overall best teacher thanked the MP and DCE for the recognition and said it would boost his morale to do more and encourage other teachers to demonstrate more commitment to their chosen profession. 

He assured the MP, DCE, and traditional leaders of the utmost best and dedication to ensure that education in Lambussie progressed beyond what it is now.
