Accra, July 23, GNA – French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has reaffirmed France’s unwavering support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, describing his country’s position as “intangible.”
Speaking at a press briefing in Rabat on Thursday after the Morocco-France High-Level Meeting (HLM), which he co-chaired with Moroccan Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, Mr Lecornu said France’s stance on the issue remained unchanged.
“This position, I repeat here, is intangible. It will remain unchanged, and we act accordingly, as you know,” he stated.
The French Prime Minister stressed that France stood alongside Morocco “loyally and faithfully,” citing the position expressed by French President Emmanuel Macron in a message addressed to His Majesty King Mohammed VI on the occasion of Morocco’s Throne Day on July 30, 2024.
In the message, President Macron officially stated that the present and future of the Sahara were within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.
Mr Lecornu said France’s policy continued to reflect that position and underscored the strength of bilateral relations between the two countries.
The remarks were made during the 15th session of the Morocco-France High-Level Meeting, held in Rabat as part of efforts to strengthen the Reinforced Exceptional Partnership between Morocco and France.
The partnership is being advanced under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco and French President Emmanuel Macron.
