Kadjebi (O/R), March 03, GNA – The Headmaster of Kadjebi D/A “A” Junior High School (JHS), Mr John Abrokwa-Ofori, has reported a burglary case at his office.
Items stolen during the incident included 11 mobile phones seized from students, a brand-new Lenovo laptop, GHS1,500in cash and electrical cables.
A visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to the school on Tuesday, March 03, confirmed that the office door had been forcibly opened.
Narrating the incident to GNA, Mr Abrokwa-Ofori said he had reported to school on Monday morning, only to discover that his office had been broken into.
“I realised the office door had been forced to open. When I entered, I noticed that the Lenovo laptop supplied to the school under the Basic, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (BSTEM) Programme had been taken away. The cash amounting to GHS1,500 and 11 seized mobile phones were also missing,” he stated.
He indicated that this was not the first attempt to break into the office, explaining that a similar attempt was made some months ago.
When asked whether he suspected anyone, Mr Abrokwa-Ofori said he suspected some Form Two students, whose mobile phone had recently been confiscated by school authorities.
The headmaster said the matter had been reported to the Police for investigation as well as to the Kadjebi District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Mr Michael Amenu, the Kadjebi District STEM Coordinator, who visited the school following the incident, told GNA that the stolen Lenovo laptop and its accessories, valued at about GH¢10,000, were supplied under the ITEC Global Intervention BSTEM Project.
He explained that 14 out of the 56 JHSs in the Kadjebi District had so far received the laptops and related equipment, adding that the remaining 42 JHSs were expected to receive theirs in due course.
Mr Seth Seyram Deh, Kadjebi District Director of Education, confirmed to GNA that the incident had officially been reported to his office.
Meanwhile, some residents who spoke to GNA expressed concern over increasing cases of theft in the area and called for intensified police patrols around schools to protect educational facilities.
Police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
