Accra, Mar. 3, GNA – Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, National Chief Imam, has extended condolences to Iran following the reported assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In a statement issued in Accra, the Chief Imam said the Muslim community in Ghana had been thrown into a state of sorrow by the killing, describing the late leader as “an icon in the global Islamic fraternity.”
He paid tribute to Ayatollah Khamenei, portraying him as “a pious man who combined service to his people with worship of Allah, thereby demonstrating the compatibility of religion and governance as tools for social order and national development.”
The statement further described the late Supreme Leader as “a symbol of resistance and hope for the oppressed.”
Sheikh Sharubutu denounced what he termed “US-cum-Israeli aggression that culminated in the martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei during the Holy Month of Ramadan. “
He expressed sadness over the loss of lives in the conflict, “whether Jewish or American, Arab or Persian,” and appealed to all factions to respect the sovereignty of nations, the dignity of humanity and the sanctity of Ramadan.
The Chief Imam called for an immediate end to hostilities, stressing that “escalating rhetoric must give way to pragmatic peace-building efforts.”
He said that although the conflict was largely geo-political, interfaith harmony had a critical role to play in finding lasting solutions.
