Sogakope, (V/R), July 9, GNA – A delegation from the Klikor Traditional Council, led by Torgbuiga Addo IX, has paid a courtesy call on the Presidency to officially announce preparations for the final funeral rites of the late Paramount Chief of the Klikor Traditional Area, Torgbuiga Addo VIII, while appealing for government support to improve infrastructure in the area ahead of the event.

The delegation was received at the Presidency on Tuesday by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, together with Presidential Legal Adviser Marietta Brew Oppong, Presidential Adviser Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Minister for Presidential Special Projects Michael Agyekum, and other senior government officials.

The visit formed part of the Traditional Council’s official engagement with the Presidency following an earlier notification of the passing of the late Paramount Chief, whose demise occurred on January 14, 2026.

The Council informed the Presidency that the final funeral rites had been scheduled for October 24, 2026, in the Klikor Traditional Area of the Ketu South Municipality and were expected to attract traditional rulers, government officials, diplomats, political leaders and other distinguished personalities from across Ghana and beyond.

The delegation appealed to government to expedite the rehabilitation and construction of major roads leading to Klikor and adjoining communities to facilitate the smooth movement of mourners and invited guests during the funeral.

The chiefs also called for increased government investment in infrastructure and other development projects within the Klikor Traditional Area and the wider Ketu South Constituency, stressing the need to address longstanding developmental challenges confronting the area.

The Traditional Council noted that the late Paramount Chief played significant roles in national development and humanitarian service, particularly during the political crisis in neighbouring Togo in the 1990s, when he facilitated the establishment of refugee camps in Klikor to support persons displaced by the conflict.

The Council also recalled the late chief’s close collaboration with successive governments, describing him as a respected traditional leader whose counsel contributed to national peace, stability and development.

Responding, Mr Debrah assured the delegation that their concerns and requests would be conveyed to President John Dramani Mahama for consideration.

He commended the leadership of the Klikor Traditional Council for promoting peace, unity and development within the traditional area and paid tribute to the late Torgbuiga Addo VIII for his distinguished leadership, wisdom and invaluable service to both his people and the nation.

Mr Debrah expressed confidence that the late Paramount Chief’s contributions to national development would be remembered and honoured appropriately.

The delegation also expressed the hope that President Mahama would support the funeral activities and, if his schedule permitted, attend the final funeral rites to pay his last respects to the late traditional ruler.

Members of the delegation included Torgbuiga Addo IX, Torgbuiga Gligui VII, James Gunu, Dzifa Abla Gomashie, Nicholas Kwabla Worlachie, as well as other chiefs from the Klikor and Anlo traditional areas.
