Accra, March 26, GNA – The Greater Accra Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has honoured Assistant Chief Fire Officer II Evans Osei‑Owusu with a ceremonial pulling‑out parade after more than three decades of service.

Mr. Osei‑Owusu, who joined the Service on February 1, 1989, rose from Leading Fireman to senior officer and became a prominent advocate of fire safety education.

At the Fire Academy and Training School, he distinguished himself in the Fire Prevention Unit, where his eloquence and clarity made him a familiar figure on radio and television, educating the public and mentoring officers nationwide.

In 2001, Mr. Osei‑Owusu entered leadership after selection as an Officer Cadet and graduated as an Assistant Divisional Officer.

He subsequently held key roles, undertook advanced training in Ghana and abroad, including the United Kingdom, and contributed to arson prevention, stadium safety and occupational health.

Mr. Osei‑Owusu’s contributions included supervising the establishment of five fire stations in the Tema Region, leading the construction of a Safety Office at the Greater Accra Regional Headquarters, and promoting initiatives such as fire safety placards across Accra and the “Gas Girl Project.”

Colleagues described him as compassionate, approachable, and committed to the welfare of officers and civilians, providing mentorship and counsel.

At the ceremony, the GNFS presented him with a citation and gifts in recognition of his service and leadership.

In remarks delivered on behalf of the Chief Fire Officer, Mrs. Daniella Mawusi Ntow‑Sarpong, Assistant Chief Fire Officer James Oheneba Yaw Kwarteng commended Mr. Osei‑Owusu’s humility and impact, expressing confidence that his legacy would inspire future generations.

In his farewell address, Mr. Osei‑Owusu expressed gratitude to the Government, GNFS leadership, colleagues, family, and friends for their support throughout his career.

An avid sportsman, he represented the Service in football, winning medals as a player and later serving as team manager.
