Residents applaud Agbana as graveling begins on Wuti-Vume road

Wuti (V/R), Aug. 11, GNA – Residents of Wuti and Vume in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region have expressed relief following the commencement of graveling works on the long-neglected Wuti Junction-Vume road.

The road, which connects several farming communities, had deteriorated considerably over the years, making transportation difficult and, in some sections, nearly impossible for motorists.

The poor condition of the road had negatively affected farmers, traders, schoolchildren and patients, while increasing the cost and time of transporting farm produce to market centres.

Following appeals from the affected communities, Mr Eric Edem Agbana, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu North, mobilised road engineers to commence graveling works to restore access and improve mobility along the stretch.

Some residents who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during a visit to the project site expressed appreciation to the MP for responding to their concerns and initiating the intervention.

A community elder said the rehabilitation would significantly improve the movement of people and goods, particularly farmers who depended on the road to transport their produce.

Another resident called Efo Kwaku described the intervention as a welcome development and appealed for sustained efforts to improve roads connecting other deprived communities in the Municipality.

Mr Agbana said improving the road network remained a priority, particularly in rural communities where poor road conditions continued to constrain economic activities and access to essential services.

He said the intervention formed part of broader efforts to open up farming communities, facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce, improve access to schools and health facilities, and enhance livelihoods.

The MP said the graveling would provide a temporary solution to make the road motorable while efforts continued towards securing more permanent rehabilitation of the route.

The residents expressed optimism that the intervention would improve economic activities in the area and pledged their cooperation towards the successful completion and maintenance of the road.
