Accra, Aug. 11, GNA – The National Labour Commission (NLC) has launched official social media platforms to improve public access to labour information and strengthen stakeholder engagement.
The initiative is expected to provide employers, employees, trade unions, employers’ organisations and the public with timely information on labour relations and the Commission’s activities.
Dr Bernice Welbeck, Executive Secretary of the NLC, said at the launch in Accra that the initiative reflected changing public communication patterns and growing reliance on digital platforms for accessible and credible information.
She said the Commission’s social media presence would go beyond information dissemination to provide an interactive channel through which stakeholders could seek clarification, provide feedback and discuss labour-related issues.
The platforms would be used to share information on labour laws, directives, policy updates and public notices, as well as provide updates on mediation and arbitration activities, public education programmes and stakeholder engagements.
The initiative is also expected to support continuous public education on the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees.
Dr Welbeck said the Commission’s mandate extended to both sides of the employment relationship, noting that better-informed employers and workers would be better positioned to prevent workplace disputes.
“Our goal is therefore to be more proactive than reactive,” the Commission said, emphasising the importance of education, compliance, dialogue and peaceful dispute resolution.
The Commission said the digital platforms would also help preserve its institutional history by documenting its activities, milestones, educational materials and achievements for future reference, research and institutional learning.
It said information published through the platforms would be guided by the principles of integrity, transparency, accountability, respect and professionalism.
The Commission urged stakeholders to follow and engage with its platforms and share information responsibly to promote constructive dialogue and mutual understanding.
Stakeholders can access the Commission’s platforms on Facebook, YouTube and Instagram at @nlaghana05 and contact it via WhatsApp on 0206612837 to obtain a complaint form without visiting its office.
“The platform forms part of the Commission’s broader efforts to modernise its public service delivery and remain accessible and responsive in an increasingly digital environment,” Dr Welbeck said.
The Commission reaffirmed that industrial peace remained critical to national development, as stable labour relations contributed to productivity, investment, workers’ rights and an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
Dr Welbeck expressed confidence that the platforms would enhance public confidence in the institution, improve awareness of labour rights and responsibilities, and make its services more accessible to the public.
The initiative marked a new phase in the Commission’s engagement with stakeholders and called on them to use digital communication to promote fairness, dialogue and harmony in Ghanaian workplaces, she said.
