Takoradi, March 07, GNA – Dr Patrick Ekye Kwesie, Leader of the Western Nzema Youth League (WNYL), a youth group, has charged the Ghanaian youth to be inspired by the vision of Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, and work towards achieving a prosperous nation.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the occasion of Ghana’s 69th Independence Day Celebration, Dr Kwesie said Nkrumah’s dream for the country and the African continent as a whole was not just history, but a blueprint for the youth to take action and lead the development agenda they desired.
He said “To understand what 69 years of independence means for the youth, one must first understand the man who made it possible, Dr Kwame Nkrumah who was more than a politician.
“He was a pan-African visionary whose footprint is imprinted on almost every socio-economic facet of Ghana, from education and energy to trade and agriculture.”
Dr Kwesie said, however, 69 years into the journey Dr Nkrumah started, high unemployment, the existential threat of illegal mining (galamsey), and sub-optimal systems in education, health, and other sectors continued to limit the ability of many young Ghanaians to reach their full potential.
“Unlike the generation of 1957 that fought for political freedom, today’s youth are fighting for economic freedom, better leadership, accountability, and progress,” he stated.
He charged the youth to be torch bearers of Dr Nkrumah’s development aspirations for the country and work together to a better Ghana for both current and future generations.
“As Ghana marks 69 years, my message to the young people is clear; the struggle has evolved, and it is no longer about removing the colonial master, but being masters ourselves and exercise that freedom with discipline to build the prosperity that Nkrumah envisioned for us,” the WNYL Leader noted.
