Accra, Aug. 13, GNA – Ms Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, the former CEO of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), has been released from prison after the State withdrew its application to keep her in custody pending appeal.

The Court of Appeal on Wednesday struck out the Attorney‑General’s application for a stay of execution after the State informed the court that it had withdrawn the motion.

Ms Hilda Craig, a Principal State Attorney, withdrew the motion when the matter came before the Court of Appeal. The court, which had been expected to deliver its ruling, granted the application and struck out the motion as withdrawn.

The Ghana News Agency has gathered that the Attorney‑General intends to re-file the motion at the Supreme Court.

Earlier this year, the Court of Appeal quashed Ms Tamakloe‑Attionu’s conviction and sentence, holding that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt.

Ms Tamakloe‑Attionu had been convicted and sentenced in absentia by an Accra High Court for wilfully causing financial loss of GH¢90 million to the State.

She was subsequently extradited to Ghana to serve a 10‑year prison sentence.

Following her extradition, she applied for bail pending appeal at the Court of Appeal, which later quashed the High Court’s decision convicting and sentencing her.
