Accra, March 5, GNA – The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has declared a nationwide strike from Monday, March 9, 2026.
The Association has directed all its members across the Civil Service and Local Government Service to stay at home “until further notice.”
A letter signed by Mr Isaac Bampoe Addo, Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, and addressed to the Head of Civil Service, the Head of Local Government Service, regional secretariats and members of the Association, announced the directive.
“Stay at home until further notice,” the letter stated, adding that all staff of the Civil Service and Local Government Service were to comply with the directive beginning Monday.
The letter explained that the decision followed an earlier notice issued by the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Association on February 19, 2026, indicating the intention of members to embark on industrial action if their concerns remained unresolved.
CLOGSAG said the issues that led to the planned strike had not been addressed, necessitating the directive for members nationwide to withdraw their services.
Earlier, the Association announced its intention to embark on the strike over delays in the implementation of a negotiated unique salary structure and other agreed conditions of service.
At a press conference in Accra on February 19, Mr Addo said negotiations on the unique salary structure began in 2019 and resulted in the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding between the Association and the Government.
He said the Government had initially agreed to implement the structure from January 1, 2023, but later requested additional time, leading to a revised implementation date of January 1, 2025.
Mr Addo said despite several reminders to the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, the agreed structure had not been implemented.
He said the Association had also notified the National Labour Commission of its intended industrial action.
CLOGSAG represents staff of the Civil Service and Local Government Service across the country.
