Volta Region records increase in road crashes related deaths in 2025

Ho, March 5, GNA- Volta Region has witnessed an increase in road crashes related deaths between January and December 2025 as against same period in 2024. 

Madam Joana Fafa Ayer, Volta Regional Director, National Road Safety Authority who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency said the region recorded 139 deaths in 2025 as against 89 in 2024. 

She said pedestrian knocked down has also increased during the period under review as 123 knock downs were recorded in 2025 as compared to 96 in 2024. 

Madam Ayer said persons injured during the crashes also increased by 551 during the period under review compared to 419 in 2024. 

The region, however, witnessed a decline in road crashes during the same period with 509 crashes in 2025 as against 525 in 2024. 

Madam Ayer said a total of 850 vehicles were involved in the crashes in 2025 compared to 869 in 2024, also representing a decrease. 

She urged road user-stakeholders must be circumspect on the roads towards minimizing accidents.
