Anloga (VR), March 5, GNA – The Anloga District Assembly, in the Volta Region, has announced the 6th edition of the National Sanitation Day and a district-wide clean-up exercise scheduled for Saturday, March 7, in line with the directive of President John Dramani Mahama.
The exercise which is part of the Assembly’s commitment to improving public health and environmental cleanliness in the Anloga District would enable build on the success of previous editions in combating sanitation-related diseases and promote a cleaner and safer environment.
In a press release dated March 4, signed Madam Sandra Seyram Kpedor, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Anloga, and sighted by the Ghana News Agency, stated that the district-wide clean-up exercise has aimed to further strengthen collective efforts in creating a healthier and safer environment across the Anloga District.
“The Assembly is calling on the public, for those in the Anloga District to fully cooperate and participate in the upcoming clean up exercise to help promote healthy life and prevent the spread of unwanted communicable diseases,” she said.
She explained that community leaders and stakeholders such as assembly members, unit committee members, chiefs, among others were urged to mobilise residents to take an active part in the exercise.
Madam Kpedor noted that the focus areas of the clean-up exercise include the desilting of community gutters, cleaning frontages of homes and shops, and clearing public spaces such as markets, beaches, schools, churches, parks, drainages, and others.
“On the day of the exercise, all shops in the Anloga District will remain closed until after 1000 hours and may only be allowed to reopen afterwards. Drivers are required to park their vehicles and participate in the clean-up fully. No one is expected to be left out in this important exercise.”
The DCE stressed that the Anloga District Assembly has emphasised that leadership and dedication were vital to sustaining the national initiative and the goal was to make National Sanitation Day a lasting pillar in enhancing public health and environmental hygiene in the district.
She said that defaulters who did not comply with the directives would face appropriate sanctions in accordance with the laws of the country and appealed to the residents to value and prioritise the importance of participation for community benefit.
She said that the National Sanitation Day exercise was expected to promote environmental awareness and community involvement in sanitation efforts which would align with national goals of improving public health and hygiene.
The Anloga District Assembly encouraged all residents to actively participate in the clean-up to ensure a successful event and a healthier environment for all.
