Sunyani, (Bono), Feb. 2, GNA – Mr Yaw Dabie Appiah-Mensah, an elder of the Patriotic Party (NPP), has touted Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate in Election 2024, for supporting Dr Bawumia for his re-election as the party’s flagbearer for Ghana’s Election 2028.

He said the re-election of the former Vice President Alhaji Dr Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer was partly due to the unflinching support by .

He lauded the hard work of Dr Opoku-Prempeh, former Education Minister and a leading member of Alhaji Dr Bawumia’s campaign team, saying through his strategic campaign, the former Vice President won the presidential primary in all the 29 constituencies in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regions.

“Dr Opoku-Prempeh was in-charge of Bawumia’s campaign team in Bono, Bono East and Ahafo; and if you analyse the results from the 29 constituencies in the regions, it’s glaring that Dr Opoku-Prempeh was a strong pillar behind Bawumia’s presidential victory,” Mr Appiah-Mensah, a member of the Bono Regional Council of Elders of the NPP, stated.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani on the outcome of the NPP’s just ended presidential primary, Mr Appiah-Mensah commended the party for the success and peaceful nature of the event.

He also congratulated the former Vice President for his re-election to lead the NPP in Election 2028.

He said now that the primary was over, there was the need for the party to remain formidable, re-strategise well and go into the Election 2028 with focus.

“Bawumia winning the primaries is an indication that the party still has confidence in him and believes that he can lead the NPP to regain political power,” Mr Appiah-Mensah said.

Mr Appiah-Mensah also congratulated the other presidential hopefuls, saying that their participation in the elections had consolidated the gains of the NPP’s internal democracy.

He further praised the leadership of the party for facilitating free, fair and credible elections to the satisfaction of all stakeholders.

Mr Appiah-Mensah, 75 years old and former organiser of the NPP in the then Brong-Ahafo Region, called on Alhaji Dr Bawumia to guard against complacency and remain focused in
building a formidable front for the party.

He emphasised that every internal election was characterised by factionalism, and asked Alhaji Dr Bawumia, his campaign team and the leadership of the NPP to tackle those offshoots proactively, to sustain and strengthen party unity.
