Bodi (WN/R), Dec. 12, GNA-The World Vision Ghana, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), and the Bodi District Gender Department have launched a campaign to raise awareness and support survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in communities.

The campaign was on theme “Thrive programme” of World Vision Ghana to combat Gender Base Violence in Kama, Kafukaa, Ntesano, and Denchemuasue all in the Bodi District of the Western North Region.

The campaign, led by Madam Henrietta Prekoe, the officer in Charge of the Gender Desk in the district, sought to support community members, leaders and stakeholders in promoting a culture of respect and safety for all.

Madam Prekoe speaking at an event to mark this year’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, said GBV affected everyone and that authorities must work together to create a safe and supportive environment for women and girls.

She said the campaign was a broader effort to address GBV in Ghana with the government and organisations working to support survivors and hold perpetrators accountable.

Madam Prekoe said the campaign included community outreach, education and advocacy targeting men, women, and the youth, stating that “we want to involve everyone in this fight.”

Police Inspector Andrews Okrah, an Officer with the Western North Regional Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU), said GBV was a threat to national development, and a crime against humanity.

“At DOVVSU, we are committed to support survivors and holding perpetrators accountable, so I urge everyone to join us in the fight against Gender Base Violence,” he said.

Inspector Okrah called on authorities to work together and create a society where women and girls could live without fear of violence.
