Kadjebi (O/R), Dec. 12, GNA-Residents of Kadjebi in the Oti Region, have expressed their frustration over persistent daily power outages, which often last between 20 and 30 minutes, and sometimes stretch to an hour or more.
They described the situation as worrying and called on the authorities, particularly the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Volta River Authority (VRA), to address the challenge urgently to ease the frustrations of households and businesses.
Mr Michael Boateng, a resident of Kadjebi Akporsor Kordzi, said the frequent outages were affecting productivity and disrupting evening activities.
“We can be in the middle of something, and the lights will go off without warning. It’s becoming unbearable, and we need a lasting solution,” he said.
Mr Martin Agbesi, another resident, noted that the interruptions were taking a toll on electronic appliances.
“Some of us have had our fridges and televisions damaged because the lights keep flickering. We cannot continue replacing appliances due to power fluctuations,” he lamented.
Mr Imoru Alhassan, a resident of Kadjebi Zongo, said the situation was creating insecurity in the community at night.
“When the lights go off suddenly, the whole area becomes dark, and that is dangerous. We fear criminals may take advantage of it,” he stated.
Ms Justine Amegatse, a fishmonger at the Kadjebi Cocoa Market, said the outages were affecting her business as she relied on electricity to preserve her stock.
“Anytime the lights go off for long, the fish begins to thaw, and I risk losing money. We need stable power to keep our businesses running,” she said.
The residents appealed to the appropriate agencies to investigate the cause of the recurring outages and put in place reliable measures to ensure stable electricity supply to the Kadjebi township and surrounding communities.
