Banahenekrom (Ash), Aug. 29, GNA – Mr. Nelson Yamba Isaka Ibrahim, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South-East, has commissioned a three-unit classroom block for the Banahenekrom Junior High School (JHS) to improve the learning environment and access to quality education.
The facility, funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), comprises three classrooms, an office, toilet and urinal facilities, and other ancillary facilities to support teaching and learning.
Speaking at a ceremony to hand over the facility, Mr. Ibrahim said the project formed part of the government’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure and creating conducive environments for effective teaching and learning.
He expressed optimism that the facility would help address infrastructure challenges confronting basic schools in the area and provide a more comfortable environment for teachers and pupils.
The DCE said improved infrastructure was essential to enhance academic performance but cautioned that its provision alone could not guarantee its sustainability.
He therefore urged the school’s management, Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), traditional authorities and residents to take collective responsibility for maintaining the facility.
Mr. Ibrahim stressed that public facilities belonged to the people and should be protected against vandalism, neglect and other activities that could lead to their premature deterioration.
Mr. Yakubu Mohammed, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ahafo Ano South-East, cautioned individuals encroaching on lands belonging to the school and other public institutions to desist from the practice.
He said lands acquired for educational and other public purposes were intended to serve the collective interest of communities and should not be converted to private use.
Mr. Mohammed urged prospective developers to verify the ownership and status of lands before commencing development, warning that encroachment on public lands could undermine future development projects.
He called on traditional leaders, Assembly members, landowners and residents to work together to protect public lands and preserve adequate space for future expansion of schools and other community facilities.
Mr. Hamidu Kramo, the District Director of Education for Ahafo Ano South-East, speaking on behalf of the school management, expressed appreciation to the DCE, MP and other stakeholders for their efforts in providing the facility.
He described the project as a major boost to education in the community, saying it would ease pressure on existing facilities and create a better learning environment for the pupils.
He assured the authorities that the facility would be properly maintained to benefit current and future generations.
