Goaso, (Ahafo), Dec 12, GNA- The Kusasi and Mamprusi factions from Bawku in the Upper East Region, residing in Asunafo North Municipal in the Ahafo Region, have committed to peace ahead of the declaration of the outcome of the Asantehene-led resolution process.
The commitment was made by the Mamprusi’s Chiefs and elders as well as the Kusaasi’s Chiefs and Elders at the Asunafo North Municipality at Goaso.
The move followed the directives from president Mahama to all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to meet with both factions of the Bawku conflict and security agencies for peace talks before the final presentation of the Asantehene-led mediation report to government on December 16, 2025.
The Dwantuahene of the Goaso Mamprusi, Naa Salma Mamudu, and Naa Iddrisu Mahama, Masuhene, emphasised their commitment to peace, saying “We, the Mamprusi community, are committed to peace and will do everything possible to ensure that the conflict is resolved peacefully”.
The Abusuapanin of Goaso Kusaasi Community, Naba Abdul Salam Anyare, and Queenmother of Goaso Kusaasi Community, Poanab Juliana Mampoaba, also, called for calm and peaceful resolution to the conflict and emphasised that “We are one people, and we must live together in peace”.
Mr.Joseph Akparibo, the Asunafo North Municipal Chief Executive, made this known at a joint press conference of both factions at Goaso to demonstrate how the groups were committed to peace and peaceful coexistence of resolving the conflict through peaceful means.
He said the Asantehene-led mediation process was expected to bring a lasting solution to the Bawku conflict, and the commitment to peace by the Kusasi and Mamprusi factions in the country.
The joint press conference was attended by officials from the Asunafo North Municipal Assembly, security agencies, and community leaders, who all expressed their support for the peace initiative hoping that it would bring an end to the conflict and pave way for development and prosperity in the area
The Bawku conflict has been ongoing for several years, causing untold hardships to the people of the area. The commitment to peace by the Kusasi and Mamprusi factions is seen as a major breakthrough, and it is hoped that the Asantehene-led mediation process will bring a lasting solution to the conflict.
