Adaklu Torda (V/R), Dec. 20 GNA – The Adaklu District Security Council (DISEC) has began a tour of the district to educate and sensitise communities on the government’s general amnesty given to citizens,
to surrender all illicit guns to the Police.
The initiative was launched by Mr Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, the Minister for Interior on November 11, 2025.
The amnesty which runs for six weeks takes effect from December 1, 2025 ends of on January 15, 2026.
Mr Jerry Yao Ameko, the Adaklu District Chief Executive and Chairman of Adaklu DISEC addressing one of such engagements at Adaklu Torda, asked the people to surrender all guns, whether registered or not, to the District Police Headquarters at Adaklu Waya.
He stated that there would be random swoops and house searches after the amnesty.
Mr Ameko who is also in Dean of Volta Region MDCEs, explained that illicit arms posed a threat to national society and that the DISEC, would collaborate with the security services in the district to track and retrieve all unlicensed weapons.
He therefore advised the people to voluntarily surrender their arms as the directive was for their own safety.
The DCE allayed the fears of the people by telling them that nobody would arrest or prosecute them if they willingly surrender the guns to the Police.
He reminded them of the ban on the use of arms during traditional festivities and funerals, saying “those who flout the directive will be severely sanctioned.”
Mr Ameko disclosed that the DISEC had so far visited communities in the Adaklu Abuadi, Adaklu Anfoe and Adaklu Torda Electoral Areas and was hopeful that they would cover the other electoral areas before the end of the year.
He used the opportunity to advise them to refrain from setting bushfires during the harmattan season, warning that the devastating effects of bushfires far outweighed its benefits.
The DCE also advised them not to indulge in the cultivation, sale or use of marijuana or any other hard drugs.
The DCE stated that anybody caught in the act would not be spared but would be handed over to the law enforcement agencies for an appropriate punishment.
