Tehran, Nov 25, (dpa/GNA) – A convicted rapist has reportedly been executed in public, in the northern Iranian province of Semnan.
The Mizan news agency, which is linked to the country’s judiciary, reported on Tuesday that the man had been convicted of raping two women in the town of Bastam in the province.
The head of Semnan’s judiciary, Mohammed Sadegh Akbari, said “dealing decisively with crimes that violated public morals and that threaten society’s moral and psychological security” was among the priorities of the Semnan judicial authorities, Mizan reported.
Public executions are rare in Iran. They are usually conducted by hanging.
Two men convicted of murder were executed near the scene of their crime in August.
