Kpando (V/R), Sept 14, GNA – The Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church in Kpando has launched the Eden Waypoint Bakery Factory, an enterprise expected to contribute to job creation, skills development and socio-economic development in Kpando and surrounding areas.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Felix Kodjo Asante, District Pastor of the SDA Church in Kpando, said the bakery was part of the church’s broader vision of responding to both the spiritual and socio-economic needs of the community.
Mr Asante said the bakery was established not only as a commercial venture but also as an avenue for creating employment and equipping residents with practical skills.
He said the initiative was open to both church members and residents of Kpando and surrounding communities.
He said the factory emphasised quality, hygiene and healthy production practices, consistent with the SDA Church’s advocacy for healthy living.
Mr Asante said the factory currently produces different varieties of bread, including wheat, banana and soya bread, among others, with approval from the Food and Drugs Authority.
Mr Theophilus Kuma Darko, co-sponsor of the project, said he and his twin brother, Attah, decided to sponsor the project as part of their desire to contribute to community development and improve livelihoods.
Mr Darko said they subsequently dedicated the facility to the Seventh-day Adventist Church to operate to serve the wider community.
Mr Asante said the Church had set a target of training about 500 community members within the next year to provide them with practical and employable skills.
He said the Church planned to expand operations beyond Kpando with strategic sales points and distribution of products to other parts of the Volta Region.
He said the Church was also considering establishing other businesses at the facility, including a sachet water production plant.
Mr Asante expressed optimism that the bakery would develop into a sustainable enterprise capable of contributing meaningfully to job creation and socio-economic advancement of Kpando and neighbouring communities.
