Yamfo, (Ahafo), Sept. 14, GNA – Lieutenant Commander Michael Tetteh Donkor of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has called on the various cadet corps in the country to remain truthful and honest, endeavouring to adhere to guiding principles and ethical values.
He emphasised that truth and honesty remained perquisite, saying that, as they pursue their career path, those traits and virtues would give them the courage to admit mistakes, take responsibility for their actions, and remain resolute in defending the truth.
Lt. Cdr Donkor gave the advice when he addressed the closing session of the 2026 leadership training camp organised by the National Cadet Corps Ghana at Yamfo in the Tano North Municipality of the Ahafo Region.
He emphasised that truth and honesty built and promoted trust, and confidence and thereby attracted respect and dignity.
The one-week camp, attended by more than 500 cadet personnel, was on the theme: “Truth and honesty”.
Lt. Cdr Donkor, who was the reviewing officer, noted that: “In a modern world where shortcuts are increasingly glorified as convenient ways of achieving success, cadet personnel must uphold truth and honesty as core values on their path to leadership.”
He emphasised that: “As you have been taught the principles of truth, leadership, discipline and honesty, your loyalty must not be compromised.”
Lt. Cdr Donkor advised that: “You must remain disciplined in all aspects of your lives because when you are disciplined, truth and honesty will not depart from you.”
Mr Banabas Kofi Okoh, the Headmaster of the Yamfo Anglican Senior High School which hosted the camp noted that teaching students to be truthful remained essential to building the moral fabric of society and shaping responsible citizens.
“When we teach our students to be truthful, we are building the moral fabric of the country and helping our students to grow into good citizens because honesty and truthfulness go hand in hand,” he stated.
Mr Okoh appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to make cadet training compulsory in schools, saying that cadet training was an effective means of instilling student discipline.
Miss Rejoice Amanfo, one of the cadet personnel, noted that training had helped them acquire new knowledge, exposing the participants to valuable leadership experiences.
She encouraged the participants to remain respectful and active in cadet activities, stressing that respect and dedication were essential for achieving life successes.
