Volta NDC pays tribute to late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings

Ho (VR) Oct 29, GNA-The Volta Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has extended its deepest condolences to the family of the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the former First Lady of the Republic of Ghana. 

A team of party executives including some District and Municipal Chief executives, who were led by Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, joined the party’s General Secretary, Mr Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, and other high-ranking officials to pay a visit to the bereaved family in Accra. 

Information gathered by the Ghana News Agency, revealed that during the visit, the team expressed their heartfelt sympathies and described Nana Konadu as a symbol of strength and a champion for women’s rights during her entire life. 

The late former First Lady was also remembered for her bold and caring nature, and her unwavering commitment to empowering women in Ghana towards development in progress.  

The NDC has described Nana Konadu as a compassionate leader who demonstrated the spirit of patriotism, selfless gesture and service to the nation with her constant commitment to women empowerment, and stated that her passing was a great loss to the nation. 

It was also revealed that she was a key figure in the June 4th Revolutionary government, and later became the founder and leader of the 31st December Women’s Movement that aimed to empower women in Ghana. 

 She also served as the first woman to run for president of Ghana in the 2016 election on the ticket of the National Democratic Party, which she formed. 

Born on November 17, 1948, Nana Konadu was not only the longest-serving former First Lady, but also a stalwart in Ghanaian politics and played a significant role in the country’s democratic journey together with her late husband, Jerry John Rawlings. 

Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings died at the Ridge Hospital on Thursday, October 23, in Accra after a short illness at the age 76. 

She is survived by four adult children, including Dr. Zanetor, Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle constituency.
