‎‎Accra, June 4, GNA – The Public Records and Archives Administration Department (PRAAD) will commemorate International Archives Week (IAW) 2026 with activities to promote records management, archival preservation, transparency and good governance.

‎‎The week-long celebration, scheduled for June 8 to 12 at the PRAAD Head Office in Adabraka, Accra, will be held on the theme: “Archives at the Centre of Transparency, Development and Good Governance – A Collaborative Process.”

‎‎A statement issued by PRAAD said the annual event formed part of a global initiative to raise awareness of the vital role of archives in preserving collective memory, supporting accountability, facilitating informed decision-making and safeguarding the documentary heritage of nations.

‎‎It said the theme highlighted the contribution of archives and records management to democratic governance, institutional accountability, sustainable development and public trust.

‎‎The statement said activities for the celebration would include exhibitions and departmental tours on June 9, an open forum for records management practitioners on June 10, and a symposium on June 11.

‎‎It said the programme would end on June 12 with staff recreational and team-bonding activities.

‎‎PRAAD said the celebration would provide an opportunity for stakeholders in government, academia, civil society, development partners and the private sector to strengthen collaboration in records management and archival preservation.

‎‎It said effective records management remained a key pillar in promoting transparency, accountability and sustainable national development.

‎‎The Department, therefore, called on public institutions, records professionals, researchers, students, development partners and the general public to participate actively in the activities and support efforts to preserve Ghana’s documentary heritage for future generations.

‎‎PRAAD, which operates under the Office of the Head of the Civil Service, is mandated under the Public Records and Archives Administration Act, 1997 (Act 535), to manage public records and archives and oversee records management in public institutions.
