Nkawie (Ash) Oct 20, GNA – A total of 2091 persons and entities have been registered under the Feed Ghana Program (FGP) in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
This consist of 1887 farmers, 154 cooperatives, 42 poultry farmer based organizations (FBOs) and eight institutional farms.
Mr Daniel Peprah, the Municipal Director of Agriculture, told the Ghana News Agency the registration exercise ended within the two-month stipulated period.
He explained that livestock, cereal, foodstuff and other interested farmers participated in the exercise.
He said, Agricultural Extension Agents (AEAs), Veterinary and other officers performed the registration exercise after assessing their community names, types and sizes of farms during which existing and new entities were captured.
Mr Peprah mentioned the provision of technical advice, financial support, trade facilitation, establishment of Farmers’ Service Centres (FSCs) to improve access to agro-inputs and services, as some of the expected benefits of the initiative to the farmers.
This he said could be achieved through effective mechanization, extension and veterinary services, market linkages among others.
He appealed for cooperation and support from the farmers and all stakeholders to help achieve the purpose of the programme.
The programme is the government’s initiative, aimed at increasing productivity and accelerating the transformation of Ghana’s agricultural sector, ensure food security, create sustainable employment and enhance economic growth among others.
