Dormaa-Ahenkro (Bono), Oct. 20, GNA – Mr Dominic Adomah Ameyaw, the Dormaa Central Municipal Chief Executive in the Bono Region has cautioned the community people to avoid the temptation of engaging in illegal mining in the area.
Instead, he called for effective stakeholder collaboration to clamp down and prosecute those engaged in illegal mining activities to protect water bodies and the forest and vegetative covers.
Mr Ameyaw said fighting the menace required the support of the community, people, and their traditional leaders, saying illegal mining threatened the existence of the local communities.
He said: “In Dormaa, only Jegri Bekala Company Limited has the license and concession to undertake gold mines in the area”.
Mr Ameyaw cautioned the people when the Jegri Bekala Company Limited presented some school items to some first-year students in the Municipality who had gained admission to Senior High Schools at Dormaa-Ahenkro.
He warned that: “Those who also connive and condone illegal miners are themselves law breakers and will have themselves to blame if they are caught” and commended the mining company for its commitment towards the development of the municipality.
The company presented 1,163 trunks, 1,213 student mattresses, 5,672 exercises, and notebooks valued at GHC1000,000 to the students.
Mr Frank Kumih, the Special Aide to Dormaahene Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, expressed appreciation to the company for the gesture.
Mr John Kwame Adu Jack, the Member of Parliament for Dormaa Central Constituency also thanked the company, saying the items would lessen the financial burdens of families and advised the beneficiaries to learn hard.
Mr Collins Atta Opoku, the General Manager, Sustainable and Corporate Affairs of the Jegri Bekala Company Limited, said the presentation was part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
