Sogakope (VR) Oct 27, GNA-The Ewe Loyalty Foundation, a non-government organisation, has supported the Sogakope D. A Basic ‘B’ school in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region with sanitary pads.

The significant move was to promote menstrual health and hygiene among schoolgirls in the area as well as promote quality education.

Mr. Shine Setor, the Secretary of the foundation, who presented the items on behalf of the organisation, told the Ghana News Agency, that it was importance for all to promote good menstrual hygiene practices among girls within the region and beyond.

“This donation is part of our routine work, and today’s support is in line with our fifth anniversary launch. We hope that these items will help prevent challenges faced by girls during their periods,” she said.

He explained the Foundation discovered that many girls, especially vulnerable ones in rural areas, always missed school during their menstrual periods due to the inability to afford sanitary pad, and the initiative was to address such challenges and support the less privileged.

He said that one of the objectives of the Foundation was to supply sanitary pads to rural schoolgirls and urged others to recognised and understand that menstruation was a natural cycle as part of woman’s life.

Mr. Setor said: “With this essential support, we vehemently believe that this support will empower beneficiary girls to manage their menstruation with dignity and confidence even during school hours.”

Mr. Setor appealed to the staff of the school to support and guide students to use the pads appropriately and urged the beneficiaries to use the items for the intended purpose for their own benefit for a brighter future.

He said that the Ewe Loyalty Foundation was a non-governmental organisation that aimed at supporting the less privileged, orphans, and the hopeless while the initiatives, such as sanitary pad donation has demonstrated their commitment to making a positive difference in lives of those in need.

Mrs. Juliana Kokofi, the Headteacher of Sogakope D.A Basic B school, who received the items on behalf of the students expressed excitement over the support and thanked the donors for the kind gesture.

She said that the menstrual cycle affects girls’ academic performance, especially those from poor and vulnerable backgrounds and hoped that the donation would undoubtedly make a positive impact on the lives of the schoolgirls.

She said the provision of the sanitary pads to schoolgirls would promote menstrual hygiene and help reduce the stigma associated with menstruation which would promote positive impact on the health, well-being, and education of the beneficiaries.

Some beneficiary students the GNA spoke with expressed joy over the support.

They pledged that the pads would be use well for their own benefit while others also appealed to similar organisations, philanthropists, individuals to emulate same move to help curb menstrual challenges many girls faced during the period in school.
