Juaso (Ash), Oct. 18, GNA – Fifty brilliant but needy students embarking on their Senior High School (SHS) education, have received support from Maame Sarfoah Appiah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asante-Akim South.
The beneficiaries, drawn from various communities in the municipality, were visibly elated as they received chop boxes, mattresses, exercise books, and washing powder at a brief ceremony held at the forecourt of the Municipal Assembly at Juaso.
Parents and guardians who accompanied the students could not hide their joy and appreciation of the gesture.
Addressing the gathering, Madam Appiah said the initiative formed part of the Assembly’s commitment towards promoting education and supporting underprivileged children to achieve their dreams.
“Our children are the future of this nation, and it is our duty to support them to succeed. This gesture is to assure them that government cares about their progress and that their education remains a top priority,” she said.
The MCE revealed that plans were underway to extend support to more students in subsequent years.
She also hinted that the Assembly was considering providing meals for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) candidates next year, to help them write their exams in a relaxed and focused frame of mind.
Madam Appiah encouraged the beneficiaries to utilise the opportunity by dedicating themselves to their studies and staying away from negative peer influences.
“Do not forget the training your parents have given you. You are going to school with a purpose and so hold on to that vision and make your families and the entire municipality proud,” she advised.
She further reminded them that the government’s investment in free and equitable education would only be meaningful if students justified it with excellence and discipline.
