Krachi West (O/R), July 20, GNA – The Oti Regional Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised a Youth Leaders’ Empowerment Dialogue Session for students of the Kete-Krachi School of Nursing to strengthen their commitment to ethical leadership, transparency, accountability and responsible citizenship.
Addressing participants, Mr Setriakor Gagakuma, Deputy Oti Regional Director of the NCCE, underscored the critical role of young people in shaping Ghana’s democratic future through principled leadership and ethical conduct.
He said integrity was not merely a personal virtue, but a leadership responsibility that inspired trust, strengthened institutions and promoted national development.
Mr Gagakuma encouraged the nursing students to remain committed to honesty, fairness and professionalism throughout their academic journey and future careers.
He reminded them that, as future healthcare professionals, they would occupy positions of public trust and must therefore uphold the highest ethical standards in the discharge of their duties.
The Deputy Regional Director took participants through key topics, including youth leadership as a catalyst for good governance, conflict of interest in public and institutional decision-making, influence peddling and abuse of office, and the rule of law and ethical leadership standards.
He emphasised that the fight against corruption began with individual choices and urged student leaders to influence their peers positively by promoting accountability, integrity, and responsible citizenship.
Madam Gifty Amenuke, Krachi District Director of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), supported the discussion by highlighting CHRAJ’s constitutional mandate to promote administrative justice, protect human rights and combat corruption.
She encouraged the students to familiarise themselves with accountability mechanisms and demonstrate courage in speaking out against unethical practices.
Madam Amenuke stressed that transparency and respect for the rule of law were indispensable to good governance and quality public service delivery.
The dialogue session was highly interactive, with participants sharing experiences, asking questions and proposing practical measures to promote integrity within the school community.
The students pledged to serve as ambassadors of ethical leadership by promoting honesty, accountability, and respect for institutional rules among their peers.
The engagement formed part of the NCCE’s implementation of the Civic Engagements on the Rule of Law and the Fight Against Corruption initiative under the Participation, Accountability and Integrity for a Resilient Democracy (PAIReD) Programme.
The programme seeks to empower young leaders to champion integrity and uphold the rule of law within their institutions and communities.
The Youth Leaders’ Empowerment Dialogue Sessions are being implemented by the NCCE under the PAIReD Programme, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), co-financed by the European Union and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), and implemented by GIZ in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, with the NCCE serving as an implementing partner.
