Kpassa (O/R), July 20, GNA – Mr Isaiah Kudjoe Dordoe, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nkwanta North, has urged persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the district to make effective and responsible use of livelihood support provided by the District Assembly.
Such responsible use, he said, would improve their living conditions, attain economic independence and contribute to local development.
The appeal was made during a presentation ceremony where 165 persons with disabilities received various forms of financial assistance and livelihood support under the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) allocation for Persons with Disabilities.
The beneficiaries received financial assistance to support the payment of school fees and medical bills, while others were provided with livelihood items including sewing machines, deep freezers, tricycles, knapsack spraying machines, bags of cement, iron sheets and other working tools to enable them to establish and expand income-generating activities.
Mr Dordoe said the intervention formed part of government’s commitment to promoting social inclusion and improving the welfare of Persons with Disabilities through targeted empowerment programmes.
He explained that the support was carefully selected based on the needs of individual beneficiaries to ensure that it would have a lasting impact on their livelihoods.
According to him, the Assembly was determined to ensure that vulnerable persons were not left behind in the district’s development agenda, adding that empowering PWDs economically would enable them to become self-reliant and reduce poverty among their households.
“The Assembly is committed to inclusive development. We expect that these items will be used effectively to enhance your businesses, improve your wellbeing and create sustainable sources of income for yourselves and your families,” he stated.
The DCE advised beneficiaries to maintain the equipment properly and avoid selling or misusing the items, stressing that the support was intended to transform their lives and not serve as temporary relief.
He also encouraged them to remain focused, hardworking and determined to succeed despite the challenges associated with disability, assuring them that the Assembly would continue to advocate for programmes that promote equal opportunities, skills development and economic empowerment.
Mr Dordoe reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to implementing government policies aimed at improving access to education, healthcare, employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for Persons with Disabilities.
He noted that the Assembly would continue to ensure the transparent and equitable distribution of the Disability Fund to eligible beneficiaries to enhance accountability and maximise its impact.
The beneficiaries on behalf of their colleagues expressed appreciation to the government and the Nkwanta North District Assembly for the timely intervention, describing the support as a major relief that would help improve their livelihoods.
They pledged to put the items and financial assistance to good use by expanding their businesses, supporting their education and meeting critical health needs.
Some beneficiaries said the tricycles would improve their mobility and transport businesses, while those who received sewing machines, deep freezers and knapsack spraying machines expressed optimism that the equipment would increase their productivity and incomes.
They appealed for the continuation of such interventions and called for additional skills training and business development support to enable them to manage their enterprises effectively and become financially independent.
The presentation formed part of the Assembly’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusive development and ensure that Persons with Disabilities are empowered to participate fully in the socio-economic development of the Nkwanta North District.
