Sunyani, (Bono), Aug. GNA – Mrs Fati Kine-Lam, the Bono Regional Director for the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) tasked the newly recruited Municipal and District Coordinators of the Organisation to prioritize disaster risk initiatives and activities.
He asked them to remain at the frontline, spearheading the conduct of regular clean up exercises, community engagements, and intensify radio discussion on disaster prevention and management at the local levels.
Speaking at an orientation workshop for the newly appointed coordinators of NADMO in the region, Mrs Kine-Lam asked them to also collaborate with stakeholders, saying disaster management remained shared responsibility.
The Bono Regional Directorate of NADMO organised the day’s workshop to enlighten the coordinators on their core mandate and responsibilities.
Mrs Kine-Lam urged the coordinators to collaborate effectively with the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Environmental Health Officers, Environmental Protection Authority, and the National Petroleum Authority for effective disaster prevention and management. She urged them to remain submissive and also work together with traditional authorities, religious bodies, and fun clubs too in disaster management activities and programmes.
Mrs Kine-Lam told the coordinators that it was their responsibility to prevent disaster in the local communities, urging them to build good relationships with Members of Parliament and Municipal and District Chief Executives in their respective areas.
They must also identify opportunities to mobilize funds by working with civil society organisations to expand their scope of operations, stressing the need for them to link-up with the Assembly Members and Zonal coordinators for accurate primary information and data on disasters.
Nana Yeboah, the Bono Regional Operations Officer of NADMO indicated that tree planting remained one of the best remedies for disaster prevention and climate change mitigation actions and urged them to spearhead tree planting exercises in schools and communities.
