Ankaful Prisons School: 284 new officers pass out

By Prince Acquah

Ankaful (C/R), Aug 10, GNA – The Ankaful Prisons Officers Training School (APOTS) has officially graduated and commissioned some 284 new officers for service at the school’s second passing-out parade this weekend.

The officers, including 132 females, were enrolled in December 2024 for the 126th recruit course which took them through rigorous physical, psychological and academic training to adequately prepare them for the Service.

Having successfully completed their training, the fresh men and women will be detailed to various posts across the country to beef up security and enhance the singular role of the institution in the justice system.

The colourful ceremony was graced by Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, the Oguaamanhen and a host of other dignitaries.

Recruit Officer Prince Manfo Nyamekye was adjudged the overall best recruit at the parade as some recruits were honoured for distinguishing themselves.

DOP Issaku Yahayah, Director of Prisons in Charge of Human Resource, highlighted efforts to reform Ghana’s prisons into correctional centres through behavioural corrections, vocational training and psychological support to offenders.

To that end, he said the Service was expanding infrastructure, introducing new directorates, and undertaking some other critical modifications for the new direction.

In line with the vital process of transformation, DOP Yahayah challenged the new officers to work with courage, compassion and unflinching dedication to the service.

He entreated them to be agents of change, guardians of justice, and ambassadors of hope to people who found themselves in their custody.

He further encouraged them to serve with integrity, upholding the highest standards of discipline and respecting the dignity of every person in their custody.

“As you go into the field, wear your uniform with pride, serve with humility and uphold the good name of the Ghana Prisons Service.

“Together, let us work towards a more secure, humane and modern correctional system for our beloved country,” he admonished.

DOP Yahaya commended the authorities and staff of APOTS for shaping the young officers with dedication and professionalism and urged them to continue on that path.
