Duayaw-Nkwanta, (Ahafo), Oct. 1, GNA – The Tano North Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has enlightened women groups in the Municipality on corruption, its consequences and upholding the rule of law.

The commission in corruption with the Tano North Municipal Directorate of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), organised the day’s forum.

It was a follow-up to a similar training and to assess the impacts and collect feedback from the participants, mostly market and business women, traders, dressmakers, hairdressers, youth, and students.

The event was sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, European Union, and the Deutsch Gesellshaft fur International Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

In a welcoming address, Mr Joseph Oduro-Buabeng, the Tano North Municipal Director of the NCCE, emphasised that corruption remained the bane of accelerated national development.

He indicated that the country loses over GHC12 million annually due to corruption, hence the need for a collective approach to stem the menace.

Mr Oduro-Buabeng said in 2025 NCCE engaged various groups and communities and to sensitize them on corruption and the rule of law to help bring the menace under control and protect the prevailing peace in the municipality.

“Barely a year ago, we sensitised and empowered you to contribute to the fight against corruption, and we are here today to refresh your minds, follow up and receive feedback on the impact of the training”, he explained.

Mr Victor Osei, the Tano North Municipal Director of the CHRAJ, noted that women needed to be empowered so that they could play an active role in addressing societal ills and wrongs.

In an open forum, some of the women expressed concern that corruption was still endemic in Ghanaian society, calling for intensified and pragmatic measures to curb the menace.

They also called on the government to adequately resource relevant state institutions and law enforcement agencies in their collective efforts towards fighting corruption.
