Anfoega (V/R), Oct. 21, GNA -The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the North Dayi District has engaged women in Anfoega to assess the impact of a programme aimed at empowering them to fight corruption and demand accountability from public institutions.

The engagement, held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, brought together participants from various groups, including hairdressers, tailors, market women, garment workers, shop owners and other business operators.

The North Dayi District Director of the NCCE, Mr Simon Kofi Mawuko, said the programme, which began last year, sought to strengthen the rule of law and equip women with knowledge of their rights and appropriate channels for reporting corruption and injustice.

He said feedback from participants showed that some had refused to pay bribes, demanded receipts for payments, and pursued their legal rights in court.

Mr Mawuko said the latest engagement was intended to assess how participants had applied the knowledge acquired during the previous training and encourage them to share it with other women.

He added that a follow-up committee would engage the police over a complaint raised by a participant who expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of a case she had reported, with the aim of finding a resolution.

The initiative is sponsored by the German development agency GIZ, in partnership with the European Union and the Ministry of Finance, with the SEC responsible for implementation.

Mr Mawuko expressed hope that the programme would strengthen women’s participation in the fight against corruption and contribute to building a fairer society free from corruption and injustice.

Madam Ophelia,, who is a participant of the program, acknowledged the organizers and said corruption has become a major problem in the country, and they are ready to fight it through education.
