Accra, Oct. 21, GNA – The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed the Ashanti Regional Director of Education and the Obuasi East Municipal Director of Education to step aside pending investigations into the Obuasi Senior High Technical School case.
The directive takes immediate effect and forms part of ongoing investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct involving the school’s headmaster.
A statement issued by GES and signed by Mr Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations, said Dr William Amakwah Appiah and Mr Kwamena Owusu-Nketsiah had been directed to step aside to facilitate the investigations.
“The decision is intended to ensure that the investigations proceed without potential interference, nor perception of it,” the statement said.
GES directed the two officials to hand over their offices and all state property in their possession to Mr Thomas Kwame Boateng, Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of Education.
The statement said the headmaster, Mr Zakaria Abdulai, remained interdicted.
It urged the public to disregard reports suggesting that he had been cleared of the allegations.
GES called for calm, support and cooperation while investigations into the matter continue.
