Accra, Oct. 3, GNA – Ghana and Nigeria are set to jointly host the 2026 World Summit of the International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management (IFPSM), bringing together global supply chain leaders and business executives to deliberate on sustainable growth and development.

The summit, scheduled for October 12 to 18 in Accra and Akosombo, would be held under the theme: “Integrated Supply Chain Management – The Panacea for Global Sustainable Growth and Development.”
The landmark gathering is expected to provide a platform for stakeholders to exchange knowledge, explore emerging technologies and develop strategies to strengthen supply chains amid growing global economic and logistical challenges.

Mr Augustus Obuadum Tanoh, Presidential Adviser on the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme, said Ghana’s participation in the summit reflected the importance of integrated supply chains to the country’s economic transformation agenda.

He said the summit highlighted the need for Ghana to build seamless value chains linking production from the farm to the factory, and from the factory to ports and regional and global markets.

Through its Connect24 sub-programme, Mr Tanoh revealed that the government was seeking to improve supply chain and market efficiency while leveraging the Volta Economic Corridor and a multimodal transport system linking rail, road, inland waterways and air transport.

He said such integration would help reduce the cost of doing business, improve production efficiency and make Ghanaian products more competitive in international markets.

Mr Tanoh noted that integrated supply chain management was also critical to sustainable development through the reduction of waste and post-harvest losses, strengthening of food security, creation of decent jobs and promotion of a just and green transition.

The Presidential Adviser said the success of such an ambitious agenda depended on skilled, ethical and globally competitive supply chain professionals and institutions capable of setting standards and developing the competencies required by the modern economy.

The summit’s organisers noted that its broader African objective was to promote local content development and help shift the continent from an import-dominated economic structure towards greater intra-African trade, value addition and the export of surplus production to global markets.

It would also showcase Ghana’s tourism and cultural heritage, with optional activities including a Volta Lake cruise, visits to traditional palaces, hiking and tours of waterfalls and other attractions.

The IFPSM World Summit 2026 is expected to strengthen collaboration among supply chain professionals while creating opportunities for business partnerships, investment, knowledge exchange and innovation across Africa and the global supply chain ecosystem.

The programme would feature a Professional Summit, Business Summit and Tourism Supply Chain Day, alongside exhibitions, networking sessions, business engagements, and a Recognition and Awards Night.
