Paris, Oct 23. (dpa/ GNA) – France’s former president François Hollande on Friday spoke of a racially motivated attack following the deadly shooting in the Paris region just hours earlier.
“In the face of the terrible attack that has struck the communities of Trappes and La Verrière, national solidarity is now required, as this heinous act is characterized by racist hate,” Hollande wrote on X.
He added that the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office was right to take over the investigation.
In the morning, a man fired from a car with an automatic weapon in communities near the French capital.
One person was killed, and four others were injured, some critically, including a twelve-year-old child. The man was arrested a short time later.
Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez spoke of a terrorist act. Citing the responsible prosecutor, he said that the background could be of a racist nature.
Further information regarding potential motives for the attack was not initially available.
