Akatsi (VR), Oct. 5, GNA – A six-unit classroom block has been commissioned for the Akatsi Fathullaah Islamic School at Agbaflome in the Akatsi South Municipality to improve teaching and learning conditions for pupils.

The project was undertaken by the Human Development Association International (HUDAI) in partnership with the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation and the Government of Türkiye.

Dr Issahaque Munawaru, Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in charge of Quality and Access, said the facility symbolised partnership, solidarity and a collective investment in the future of children.

He said the intervention also reflected the enduring bonds of friendship between Ghana and Türkiye and urged the community to take ownership of the facility, maintain it responsibly and ensure its sustainability.

Dr Munawaru said the true value of the facility would ultimately be measured by the quality of teaching, parental involvement, and learning outcomes.

He encouraged teachers to inspire learners through dedication and creativity, while urging the pupils to study hard, dream boldly, and grow into responsible citizens who would contribute meaningfully to society.

Mrs Agnes Akpablie, Headmistress of the school, said the institution, established in 2017, started under a shed with 34 learners and three teachers.

She said after the school relocated to Agbaflome in 2022; it continued to face infrastructure challenges but managed to grow its enrolment to 65 pupils.

Mrs Akpablie said the school admitted both Muslim and non-Muslim children and provided instruction in Arabic and English.

She expressed gratitude to HUDAI for fulfilling its promise to provide the facility, which had been furnished with equipment to support teaching and learning.

The Headmistress, however, appealed for additional support for a kindergarten block, electricity, a computer laboratory, a school feeding programme and fencing of the school compound.

The school complex includes classrooms, a standard mosque and other facilities and equipment to support teaching and learning.

Residents at the ceremony commended the donors for providing the well-built and befitting facilities, describing the project as a major boost to education in the community.

The commissioning ceremony brought together representatives of the donors, the Türkiye Ambassador, municipal authorities, traditional leaders, education officials and community members, and featured goodwill messages, prayers, ribbon-cutting and the unveiling of the facility.
