Akatsi (VR), Oct. 5, GNA – Akatsi College of Education (Akatsico) is set to host Professor Morgan Chitiyo, Dean of the School of Education at the University of North Carolina, for discussions aimed at strengthening strategic partnership between the two institutions.
The engagement, among other things, would bring together the College Management, Heads of Departments and Heads of Units (Non-teaching) to explore possible areas of collaboration.
Dr Felix Kumedzro, Principal of Akatsico, disclosed to the GNA that the visit formed part of ongoing discussions and preparations towards establishing a mutually beneficial partnership between the College and the University of North Carolina.
He said the engagement would provide an opportunity for the visiting Dean and the College’s leadership to discuss areas including research, faculty development, student and staff exchanges, as well as preparations towards the College’s research conference scheduled for October.
Dr Kumedzro said the College was committed to establishing strategic partnerships that would strengthen its academic and professional development programmes and expose staff and students to broader opportunities.
He said such collaborations would also enhance the College’s research capacity and contribute to improving the quality of teacher education.
Akatsico, established in 1963, has over the years contributed to the training of professional teachers for Ghana’s education sector and continues to pursue initiatives aimed at improving teaching, learning, research and institutional development.
The College has recorded notable academic achievements, including producing 469 graduates at its 16th Congregation, with 104 of them obtaining first-class honours. It has also intensified efforts to strengthen research and professional development, including collaborations with other tertiary institutions, while continuing to improve its academic facilities and learning environment.
