Akatsi (VR), Oct. 5, GNA – The Akatsi South Municipal Directorate of Education has congratulated teachers in the Municipality on the occasion of this year’s World Teachers’ Day.
They have been commended for their dedication and sacrifices towards shaping the future of the country.
Mr Karim Ayaana Umar, Municipal Director of Education, said the quality of the nation’s future depended largely on the work being done in classrooms today, describing teachers as the foundation upon which professionals, leaders and innovators were built.
He made the remarks in a congratulatory message to teachers in the Municipality to mark World Teachers’ Day, being observed on October 5, under the theme: “Empowering Teachers: Architects of the Future.”
Mr Ayaana said teachers worked with patience, sacrifice and professionalism, often under challenging circumstances and with limited resources, to nurture learners and prepare them to contribute meaningfully to national development.
He said teachers, like architects, built with vision by nurturing curiosity, instilling discipline and values, and creating opportunities for learners to realise their potential.
Mr Ayaana reaffirmed the Directorate’s commitment to supporting teachers by promoting a conducive working environment to enable them to effectively perform their duties.
He also expressed the hope that the issues that resulted in the nationwide strike action by teachers would be resolved in good time to enable them to return to work with a renewed sense of commitment.
Mr Ayaana saluted teachers for their dedication and urged them to remain proud of their profession and continue contributing to the development of the country through their work.
“Thank you for building the future, one learner at a time,” he said.
World Teachers’ Day is observed annually on October 5 to celebrate teachers worldwide and highlight their important contribution to education and society.
The Day commemorates the adoption of the 1966 International Labour Organisation (ILO)/United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which outlined standards relating to teachers’ rights, responsibilities and working conditions.
The Day has been celebrated globally since 1994 and provides an opportunity to recognise the contribution of teachers while reflecting on the support and conditions they need to effectively perform their roles.
