Ho, Oct 09, GNA- Deputy Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Dennis Fiakpui, has said his new role will focus on building an orderly, peaceful and safer Volta Region with police presence at the doorsteps of citizens.
Mr Fiakpui, who has served in the Ghana Police Service for 26 years, was among 22 officers recently elevated from Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP). The promotions were recommended by the Police Council and approved by the President.
At a ceremony at the Police Headquarters in Accra, Mr Christian Tettey Yohuno, the Inspector-General of Police, charged the newly promoted officers to intensify efforts in reducing crime and enhancing public safety nationwide, noting that each had served at least four years in their previous rank with dedication and commitment.
Mr Fiakpui had previously served as Deputy Oti Regional Commander, Mankessim Divisional Commander and Tongu Divisional Commander.
He holds an LLM from the University of Ghana (UG), Legon, a BL from the Ghana School of Law, Makola, an LLB from Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, an MBA from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a BA in History and Philosophy from UG.
In an interview with Ghana News Agency after his promotion, DCOP Fiakpui pledged to assist DCOP Wisdom Akorli, the Volta Regional Commander to deliver on his vision of community safety.
Some have reacted to his elevation, calling it a “well-deserved promotion and that his “dedication and hard work have truly paid off.”
“In September 2020, DCOP Fiakpui, then Tongu Divisional Police Commander was shot by Western Togoland Restoration Front, the political wing of “Western Togoland” independence struggle, for attempting to stop its members from mounting road blocks and rescuing Police personnel captured by them, in their protest to demand Volta Region as a sovereign state. Today, he wears one of the Ghana Police Service’s most coveted ranks,” another said.
