Keta (V/R), Oct. 09, GNA-The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Keta Constituency has demanded an unqualified apology from the Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the area over remarks he made at the commissioning of a school block at Atsiavi-Atsime.

The NPP described the comments by Mr Wonder Setsoafia Deynu, the NDC Constituency Deputy Communications Officer, at the commissioning of a three-unit classroom block with a headteacher’s office at Atsiavi-Atsime in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region as an unfortunate, which needed apology.

According to the NPP party, Mr Deynu’s called on the people of Atsiavi to worship the NDC as if it were God because of the classroom project among others in the area.

Mr Bernard Sukah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Deputy Secretary in Keta, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the comments was a slap in the face of the people of Atsiavi.

“Mr Deynu must as a matter of urgency render an unqualified apology to the people of Atsiavi, he cannot force the residents to either work or belong to a political party against their wish,” he said.

Mr Sukah said that it was unacceptable and ungrateful for a community to be asked to show such devotion to a political party merely because of a three-unit classroom block, which was a public facility and a responsibility of the government.

He suggested that the occasion has been overshadowed by the exchange of such unnecessary comments and argued that the people of Atsiavi deserve better including good roads, infrastructure, electrification projects among others than tk force them to show respect and worship a political party for a few projects out of thousands for the community.

Meanwhile, Mr Wonder Setsoafia Deynu, during the ceremony further said residents should rally support for the NDC and worship the party daily as their personal saviour and God, since it was making every effort to solve the pressing challenges of the country.

“As you can see, the NDC is commissioning projects day in day out, because, proper party is now in power, l am urging you to take the NDC party in hearts and worship it like almighty heavenly father whether raining or shining.”

The classroom facility was commissioned by the Member of Parliament for Keta, Mr Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, and the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Wisdom Seade, together with other stakeholders and was expected to improve learning conditions for pupils in the community.

The NPP was silence on what action it would take if no apology is offered and could not indicate whether the demand had been formally communicated to the NDC’s constituency leadership.
